We’ll gather for an evening of study, and treats! Come out – as a Jew, as queer, and enjoy an evening of discussion. Costumes optional!
Traditionally, Purim (Hebrew: פּוּרִים, Pûrîm “lots”, from the word pur, related to Akkadian pūru) is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire from destruction in the wake of a plot by Haman, a story recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther (Megillat Esther).
We’ll focus on the story of Esther, and her revelation of her ethnicity, and its impact on her people, the Jews of Persia. Our discussion will discuss the process of coming out, and how it changes the power dynamics in our communities and cultures.
